Wilton Youth Baseball will be able to offer
a Cal Ripken 50/70 baseball program beginning with the 2009 season. This
is focused on offering the opportunity for players to prepare
to play on the full size field by utilizing a transitional "50/70"
league.
Why participate in the Cal Ripken Program 50/70 program?
- *Ripken Baseball is a
national organization that provides a proven league structure that has
adapted to the changing landscape of youth baseball.
- *50/70 refers to a 50 feet
pitching distance and 70 feet baselines. Little league fields are 46 feet
pitching distance and 60 feet baselines.
- *Ripken Baseball fully
supports the 50/70 transitional program for 11-12 year olds. This format is
gaining a strong footing as a way to help players transition from the
traditional 46/60 youth field to the 60/90 major league field beginning at
age 13.
- *Games will be played using
traditional baseball rules where players can take leads, pitchers learn to
hold runners, and players can run on a dropped third strike.
- *It will allow travel
organizations to compliment their travel schedules with organized league
play.
- *Coaches in this league will
be required to complete a coaching certification sponsored by Cal Ripken
baseball.
50/70 Program -

Cal Ripken Baseball can choose to play in the 50/70 program. The 50/70 program
is a 50ft. pitching distance and 70ft. bases. Players can "lead off", pitchers
must learn to "hold runners". This program has proven to be a very valuable
asset to help prepare the players for the next step, the full size field (90ft.
bases & 60ft. pitching distance). Players must move up to to play middle
school baseball and Babe Ruth Baseball @ age 13. Cal Ripken 11-12 year old 50/70

series play.
